Top 10 Bible Verses for the Lonely Girl

July 17, 2023 6 min read

I see you, lonely girl!

No matter how far adrift you feel, set apart from everything and everyone, know that we serve a God who sees you and knows your pain. You weren't created to live alone. No, God has a plan to connect you with others—a plan that leads to your betterment and the coming of His kingdom.

Today, I'm sharing the best Bible verses to combat loneliness, so you can get to feeling connected and oh-so-loved.

Bible verses for loneliness

Isaiah 41:10

"So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand."

This popular verse depicts God's devotion to the people of Israel. This is the character of God—always committed, always loving. You can apply this to how God feels about you, too! As the Enduring Word Bible commentary states, this verse is both a command and a promise.

We're told not to fear. Why? Because fear is a sin. It's our distrust in God. Therefore, when God tells us not to fear, we must take His words very seriously. Also, it's a promise. We don't have to fear because we have a loving God who is for us.

These are the ultimate fighting words to combat loneliness because they're rooted in power and rich Old Testament history. The next time you're feeling isolated, pray Isaiah 41:10 over yourself—that you may trust in God and feel His presence.

 Romans 8:37

"Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord."

What can separate you from the love of God? Absolutely nothing! This verse is sure to leave a smile on your face with its confident language.

No force on earth can come between you and God. No earthly or spiritual power. This is great news, believer! If you've given your heart to Jesus, you are His. Christ's sacrifice on the cross is complete and you are redeemed.

If you're feeling isolated in your anxiety, know that we serve a God who has overcome this world and is actively working for your good.

 Philippians 4:13

"I can do all this through him who gives me strength."

The battle rages on, but we know where our strength comes from. Since we believe in Christ, we know our power to fight darkness comes from a deeply sacred, deeply powerful source.

Jesus showcased the ultimate display of power of authority when He died on the cross and rose again. He conquered sin and death. That's it—no exceptions. While we're continuing to face the pitfalls of living in a broken world, we can trust in Him as our supreme source of strength to see us through hard times.

Psalm 56:3-4

"When I am afraid, I put my trust in you. In God, whose word I praise—in God I trust and am not afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?"

This verse gives us the antidote to our problem of fear. When we're afraid, we're to put our complete trust in God.

Fear and trust—the problem and the solution. When this is your response to darkness, who can touch you? Who can discourage you? No one. Once again, we're given the reassurance that God is the ultimate authority on earth and there is no human force that can thwart His will for the world.

Woman smiling, trusting in God

John 14:16

"And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever."

Each day, we live in a secure, humbling reality—we are never alone. No, not really. You see, even when Jesus left earth all those years ago He promised He would be sending a helper who would always be with us. That helper? The Holy Spirit. That's the advocate in question here.

When Jesus told His disciples He was leaving, He immediately could sense what their anxious thoughts would be. When they feared abandonment, He assured them they would always have God's presence through the Holy Spirit.

The same is true for you, too.

You are never alone. The Holy Spirit dwells within you and is constantly guiding you and pointing you to hope. This is the Holy Trinity of God in action.

Psalm 68:5-6

"A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in his holy dwelling. God sets the lonely in families, he leads out the prisoners with singing; but the rebellious live in a sun-scorched land."

God will always be on the side of the oppressed. He is near to those who are suffering, and that's how it's always been. We see this throughout the Bible as God comes alongside those who are hurting and He empowers them through His grace and love.

As this verse mentions, He is the father to the fatherless. He is the defender of the weak. There's this deep sense of joy we can glean from theses verses.

No matter what our earthly situation may be—downcast, abandoned, alone—we can find everything we're looking for in God.

 Woman smiling in a field

John 16:32

"Behold, the hour is coming, indeed it has come, when you will be scattered, each to his own home, and will leave me alone. Yet I am not alone, for the Father is with me."

Even amid of His final hours, during the darkest day in history, Jesus knew He wouldn't face death alone. The Father was with Him.

It's startling to read the account of Jesus' words in His final days on earth, because there's so much and trust and obedience He displays. Whatever degree of loneliness you're feeling, know that you serve a God who has been there.

Jesus was betrayed in the worst possible way. He was often shunned and rejected throughout His ministry. Many people cursed His name and wanted Him dead, and yet, He still fulfilled God's mission. Why? Because He knew the Father and trusted His presence. Jesus was never alone, and neither are you.

1 Peter 5:7

"Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you."

That grief you're carrying—you're not meant to carry it alone. There's this false sense of independence in our culture, that somehow being dependent is a bad thing and the only way to be strong is to soldier on and rely on yourself.

This couldn't be farther from the truth. We're in desperate need of a Savior, and it is only through our acknowledgment of weakness that we can finally begin to heal and become strong.

Woman praying in the wilderness

Mark 1:35

"In the early morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house, and went away to a secluded place, and was praying there."

Silence and solitude aren't always bad things. Of course, it's important to note here that some of your greatest breakthroughs and encounters with God can come from seasons in the wilderness, lost and alone. God often uses these difficult seasons to reveal Himself to us and teach us a lesson for our growth.

Just because you're in a challenging chapter doesn't mean you're doing anything wrong, necessarily. Jesus would often withdraw from the crowds and go off into the country to spend time alone with the Father. If you're feeling alone, follow Jesus' lead and spend time with God. He is here for you, willing and ready to provide inspiration and healing.

Matthew 11:29

"Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls."

Jesus was not the Messiah the Israelites were expecting. Instead of a Davidic warrior king, set on destroying their enemies, Jesus came in humility. He emphasized the importance of enemy-love and forgiveness. He is gentle and kind.

There is a great invitation waiting for you today—to bring your pain to Jesus and find rest for your soul. I wanted to end with this passage because it's the path to healing. Jesus is more loving than you can ever imagine. Go to Him today, and move from isolation to freedom.
